David J. Van Dyke, Esq.
David J. Van Dyke is a Partner of the firm. He was educated at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (B.A. 1981) magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa and Harvard University (J.D. 1984) and was associate editor of the Harvard International Law Journal.
He has been admitted to the State Bars of Massachusetts, New York, and Maine (presently active only in Maine); Federal Bars of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, District of Massachusetts and District of Maine; First Circuit Court of Appeals and also admitted to case-specific practice in Tennessee and Florida, among other jurisdictions.
David is principally engaged in commercial and complex criminal litigation, with significant trial experience as well in international law (commercial litigation between the United States and the United Kingdom and litigation under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act/Extra-Judicial Killing Act), personal injury, medical malpractice and domestic relations/family law work.
Significant cases include: (Criminal) Has defended six murder cases, multiple Class “A” and “B” felonies (State Court) and numerous drug distribution (cocaine, heroin, ecstacy, opiates and other drugs), firearm by felon, child pornography (production and possession) and white collar fraud and other crimes (Federal Court). (Civil) Has prosecuted contract claims against foreign corporations, served as trial counsel in a class action medical-insurance fraud case pending in the New York State trial court (New York City), has obtained a $21 million Judgment against the Republic of Cuba (Sullivan v. Cuba), and has collected multiple millions of dollars in recoveries for civil clients over the past 28 years.
David has authored a novel and coached travel soccer and youth basketball. He is also a former amateur travel photographer to four continents and co-founded the Harvard Law School Armadillo (social) Club 1981-84.
Born in Waukegan, Illinois, Attorney Van Dyke resides principally in Lewiston with his wife of more than twenty years, Karen, and their two sons.
Donald S. Hornblower
Donald S. Hornblower is a partner of the firm. Don majored in Philosophy and English in college and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boston College in 1982. After working in the counseling/ social service field and in alternative sentencing programs, he attended the University Of Maine School Of Law, where he received a Juris Doctor degree in 1991.
While Don was in law school, he worked for Sentencing Options, a program that was designed to recommend alternative sentences (sentences that were alternatives to jail and prison terms) to courts in Maine. Don was admitted to practice law in Maine in 1991, and began his legal practice in courts in the Androscoggin, Franklin, Oxford and Cumberland counties. In that same year he was also admitted to the Massachusetts Bar and the United States District Court for Maine.
Over the past 21 years, Don has represented clients in criminal, family, divorce, child protective, protection from abuse, civil, and personal injury cases. Within his criminal practice, Don has represented clients in cases ranging from juvenile offenses to misdemeanors such as Assault, Theft, OUI, OAS, to serious felonies, such as Drug Trafficking, Aggravated Assault, and Operating after Habitual Offender, Robbery, Burglary, and Murder.
With clients accused of an administrative and criminal OUI charge, Don will vigorously investigate and prepare a defense for every case. He will represent his client in each stage of every proceeding, from administrative hearings at the Department of Motor Vehicles to motion hearings and trials at the court.
Don is presently serving as the Defense Attorney Liaison for the Androscoggin County Drug Court, a program designed to closely monitor, treat, and evaluate eligible offenders who have committed crimes as a consequence of serious addictions to drugs and/or alcohol. At the same time, Don also serves as a committee member on the Maine Alliance of Drug Treatment Courts.
Don is a member of the Maine Bar Association, the Maine Association of Criminal Defense lawyers, the Androscoggin County Bar Association, and the Maine Trial Lawyers Association. He is a past committee member of New Beginnings, a program advocating for and serving the needs of local disadvantaged teenage youth.
Don resides in Portland, Maine with his wife, Amy, two children, and dog, Manny, named in honor of former Red Sox icon Manny Ramirez.
Edward Rabasco, Jr.
Edward Rabasco, Jr. is a Partner and current President of Hornblower, Lynch, Rabasco and Van Dyke, P. A. Ed has expertise in many areas of practice. These include Social Security Disability, SSI, Workers’ Compensation, Criminal Law, OUI, Drug cases, Assaults and most criminal practice areas. In addition he has expertise in Personal Injury law, Divorce and custody and civil litigation.
A graduate of Boston College and the University of Maine School of Law, cum laude, Ed has been a trial lawyer for 25 years. He has represented thousands of people in Disability, Workers’ Compensation, Personal Injury law, Family law and Criminal law cases. He has obtained millions of dollars in benefits, settlements and jury verdicts for his clients.
Ed wins benefits for most of his disability and workers’ compensation clients. He often negotiates very favorable settlements for his workers’ compensation and personal injury (automobile injury, slip & fall etc.) clients. If the case cannot be settled in the clients favor he will take it to trial.
Ed’s legal expertise and experience has resulted in him being appointed to the Maine State Bar Association, Fee Arbitration Commission and Medical Malpractice Screening Panels.
Ed practices in all Courts in Maine including Federal Court and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
Ed is a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claims representatives, the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Maine Trial Lawyers Association, the Maine State Bar Association and the American Association for Justice.
Ed has served on the Lewiston Planning Board acting as its Chair. He currently serves on the RSU 16 School Committee, which represents Poland, Minot and Mechanic Falls. He is Chair of the Policy Subcommittee and is the Moderator for the Town of Poland.
He has been a long time youth league sports coach. He has coached kids from ages 3 to 18 in baseball, soccer and basketball and continues to do so. He has also coached students in mock trials at the request of the Maine State Bar Association. Ed is a marathon runner and certified scuba diver.
Scott J. Lynch, Esq.
Scott J. Lynch is a Partner of the firm. Scott graduated magna cum laude in 1988 from Colby College in Waterville, Maine with a BA in History. He graduated in 1991 from the University Of Maine School Of Law with a Juris Doctor (Doctor of Law) degree.
Scott was admitted to the bar in Maine in 1991 and to the U.S. District Court for Maine that same year. In 1995, he was admitted to practice before the First Federal Circuit Court.
Scott has practiced personal injury, medical malpractice, family law, civil litigation, land use and zoning, and criminal law in central and southern Maine for twenty one years.
He has handled cases in nearly every court in the State of Maine from small claims to homicide. He has tried cases and settled cases amounting to millions of dollars.
Scott has represented other lawyers, engineers, accountants, real estate professionals, college students, business owners, outdoorsman and employees from all walks of life.
Scott is a member of the Maine State Bar Association, the Androscoggin County Bar Association, the Maine Trial Lawyers Association, and the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He serves on the Board of Governors of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association and is proud to represent the injured and disadvantaged.
Scott has served on the Lewiston City Council, as Member and Chairman of the Lewiston School Committee, the Lewiston Auburn Economic Growth Council, and the L.A. Loan Committee. Scott is a Little League coach, soccer coach, an avid runner (5K, 10K, 13.1) and an outdoorsman.
Scott was educated and raised in Fairfield, Maine and currently resides in Lewiston with his wife, Darlene, and his three children.
