Bicycle Commuter Education, Health & Wellness Program

The Maine Department of Transportation, GO MAINE Commuter Connections and the Bicycle Coalition of Maine are pleased to announce the new Bicycle Commuter Education, Health & Wellness Program, a cooperative effort of the three agencies.

Starting this fall and extending through the winter, our Bicycle Commuter Education team will be offering no-cost, on-site Lunch & Learn style presentations to employees and other interested parties at workplaces and other locations around Maine (i.e. Saco-Biddeford, Greater Portland, Auburn-Lewiston, Augusta-Waterville, Bangor and other locations as resources allow).

Our goal is to educate and inform the public on bicycling safety, the benefits of bicycling as a practical and healthy transportation option, and to ultimately facilitate a real increase in bicycle commuting.

These health and wellness presentations will highlight bicycle selection and orientation, bicycle safety and comfort accessories, weather, route selection, bicycling safety and motor vehicle awareness, bicycle partners and bike partner matching, employer amenities for bicyclists, and maintenance and repairs.

We'll also explain the Emergency Ride Home Guarantee--a great benefit available to bicyclists who register with GO MAINE-that can provide a free or reimbursed ride home in cases such as an unforeseen work day emergency.

Our presenters--certified bicycling instructors with years of bicycling experience--offer top notch instruction in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.  Presentations range from 30 to 50 minutes in length and are usually scheduled around lunchtime. Lunch is not provided, but participants are encouraged to enjoy their own lunch during the program. A minimum group size of six people is required. The maximum group size depends on you and your facility.

Your staff, co-workers and others who ride or want to ride a bicycle are sure to find this program beneficial and fun, regardless of experience level!
