Craft beer in a can rolls off the line in Lewiston

LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The first batch of Baxter Brewing Company beer rolled off the production line at its facility in Lewiston Friday.

Company President and Founder Luke Livingston set up shop in the Bates Mill complex. There is one big difference between his beer and most craft brews -- it will be sold in cans, not bottles. Livingston says cans are better for the environment, and for the beer because no light or oxygen gets in so the beer stays fresh longer.

The first batches of Pamola Extra Pale and Stow-Away IPA will be available in bars and restaurants next weekend. Cans will show up on store shelves in February.
