Lewiston Auburn Film Festival Fundraiser moved to Friday due to weather

The Sneak Preview: A Fundraising Event for the Lewiston Auburn Film Festival has been rescheduled to Friday, March 2 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. due to impending inclement weather. The event will still take place at the Royal Oak Room at IronHorse Court on One Bates St. in Lewiston.

Friday’s event will include food, friends, a cash bar, silent auction items and trailers of films accepted into this year’s Lewiston Auburn Film Festival (LAFF). The Sneak Preview will also feature the world premier of the music video "L/A" from the beloved P.A.L. hop band, the Rockin’

Recons. Festival organizers anticipate many of the band’s members to be in attendance.

Dempsey Center Offers Financial Management Workshop

The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free financial management workshop for cancer survivors and caregivers. ‘Managing the Costs of Living with Cancer: Financial and Community Resources’ will take place Wednesday, March 7 from 1:30 - 3 p.m. at CMMC, 12 High Street, Lewiston, Conference Room A.

A panel of experts will address issues such as medical costs, Social Security disability benefits and financial and community resources questions and more.

Maine Garden Day April 14th in Lewiston

 

University of Maine Cooperative Extension is accepting registration for its 19th annual Maine Garden Day on Saturday, April 14 at Lewiston High School, 156 East Ave. in Lewiston.

The annual extravaganza features more than 30 gardening workshops from local gardening experts, a trade show with educational displays, in addition to plants, seeds and tools for purchase. The cost of the daylong event is $50 and includes breakfast, refreshments, lunch and all workshops.

"We are excited to be offering a variety of food preservation workshops to meet the demand for information on canning, drying and pickling in addition to new workshops focusing on small-scale livestock production," says UMaine Extension educator Barbara Murphy, who is helping with event planning.

Dempsey Center Offers Colorectal Cancer Prevention Workshop

The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free nutrition workshop available to anyone. ‘Eating to Prevent Colorectal Cancer’ will take place Thursday, March 8 from 3 – 4:30 p.m. at CMMC, 12 High Street, Lewiston, Conference Room I.

Diet and proper nutrition are vital tools in the fight against colon cancer.

Recent Appointment to MPBN’s Board of Trustees

The Maine Public Broadcasting Network is pleased to announce that Nicola Wells of Lewiston has been elected to its Board of Trustees. “The Board of Trustees has overall governance and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization,” said Board Chairman Henry L. P. Schmelzer. “Trustees are elected for various reasons, such as their community networks or certain expertise—but foremost, each member must have a passion for, and a commitment to public television and radio for Maine. Nicola Wells brings these qualities to the MPBN Board in abundance and will be a tremendous asset to MPBN."

Ms. Wells is a graduate of Swarthmore College and the current state director of the Maine League of Young Voters Education Fund/League of Young Voters.  Ms. Wells has an extensive background in civic engagement both locally, nationally, and internationally.
