Lisbon Falls Native First Recipient of an Endowed Scholarship from Maine Lobster Promotion Council

The Maine Lobster Promotion Council is pleased to announce Rachel LeGloahec of Lisbon Falls, Maine this year’s recipient of an endowed scholarship designed to support Maine students attending The Culinary Institute of America.

The CIA is a private, non-profit, college with a main campus in Hyde Park, New York. Their mission is to reward students with the skills and knowledge to live successful lives in positions of influence throughout their culinary career.

LeGloahec’s penchant for hard work and cooking has made her the ideal candidate for both attendance at the CIA, and this year’s scholarship.

Dempsey Center Offers Native American Workshop

LEWISTON - The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free workshop for children, teens and families affected by cancer. “Native American Creative Workshop: Medicine Bag” will take place Friday, April 8 from 4 – 6 p.m. at CMMC, 12 High Street, conference room H. The offering is part of the Center’s Healing Tree Children’s program.

A medicine bag is a sacred tool used for protecting, healing and guiding an individual through the multifaceted experiences of the Earthwalk. Learn the art of creating your own medicine bag in order to bring hope and healing into your own life and the lives of others.

Presenter Stasia Minkowsky is an author, teacher intuitive counselor and ceremonialist. Her formal training in Native American spirituality began in 2001 on the Gila River Reservation in Arizona.  She has since participated in and conducted ceremonies for hundreds of people.

Dempsey Center offers Lunch and Learn for caregivers

LEWISTON – The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free lunch and learn for cancer caregivers titled “Cellular Memory and Your Health.” The workshop will take place Monday, April 4 from Noon – 1:30 p.m. at CMMC, 12 High Street, in conference room D.

Presenter Linda Haresheimer will discuss how both positive and difficult happenings in life can affect people down to the cellular level. Participants will identify some of the emotional challenges in their lives and learn ways to eliminate them to become happier and healthier.

Haresheimer is a Louise Hay teacher and has expanded her knowledge to include the study of cellular memory.

The heart and how it functions, and risk factors associated with heart disease were topics of discussion at a recent meeting of the Central Maine Medical Center Associates. Michael Lemieux, M.D., (photo left) shown with CMMC Associates President Christine Bosse, was the guest speaker. Lemieux, a Lewiston native, practices with Central Maine Heart Associates in Lewiston. John Bastin, director of Emergency Preparedness at CMMC, will speak at the next CMMC Associates meeting on March 14 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn.
