Auburn Fire Department organizes Citizen's Fire Academy

AUBURN, Maine -- The Auburn Fire Department is now accepting applications for the 2nd Annual Auburn Citizen’s Fire Academy.  The Fire Academy is a FREE 10-week program offered each spring to persons living or working within the City of Auburn who want to know more about the Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services.

Classes will begin on April 9 and will be held at the fire department on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. and on two Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 4 p.m.  We accept 15 applicants per class, and it is on a first come first serve basis. So get your application in as early as possible!

This program gives participants an insider view of fire department services, emergency medical services, the fire prevention division, and the 9-1-1 system.  This is done through classroom participation as well as hands-on participation.  Attendees will receive fire safety training for the home and workplace, CPR training, and fire extinguisher training.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience firsthand what it is like to be a firefighter.  With the help and guidance of Auburn Firefighters, participants can choose to climb a 100-foot aerial ladder, operate the Jaws of Life, learn to repel from buildings, drive a fire engine, wear bunker gear and a breathing apparatus, and ride out on real emergency calls.
