Brunswick native cardiologist at CMMC

Nicholas H. Laffely, M.D., F.A.C.C., an interventional cardiologist, has been appointed to the Central Maine Medical Center Medical Staff. He is practicing in association with Central Maine Heart Associates in Lewiston.
 Laffely recently served as a cardiologist and research fellow at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, (DHMC), in Lebanon, N.H. He completed general and interventional cardiology fellowships at DHMC where he had admitting and interventional cardiology privileges prior to joining the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute’s team.
A graduate of the University of Maine in Orono, Maine, he earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He also did metabolism and lipid research as a fellow at the Washington University School of Medicine in St.

Dempsey Center offers cancer caregiver workshop

LEWISTON – The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free Lunch and Learn workshop for cancer caregivers. “When your loved one is hospitalized: Helpful skills to be an effective advocate” will take place Monday, Jan. 3 from Noon – 1:30 p.m. at CMMC, 12 High St., in conference room D.
 
Presenter Karen McKenney, LSW, will discuss navigating the hospital setting including talking to doctors and medical staff, asking questions and managing expectations. McKenney received her Bachelors degree in Rehabilitation through the University of Maine-Farmington and is part of CMMC’s Palliative Care Team.

Donation will help provide meals for families in need this winter

Dempsey Center Offers Tips to Stay Calm Through the Holidays

LEWISTON – The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free workshop for cancer patients survivors and caregivers titled “Growing Through Cancer: Staying Calm Through the Holidays." The stress managing workshop will be held Wednesday, Dec. 13 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at CMMC, 12 High Street, Conference Room A.
 
Holiday preparation, tradition and obligation can sometimes get the best of us. Learn new methods that will help you manage the stress in a peaceful, calm fashion.
 
The workshop is part of the ongoing Growing Through Cancer Series presented by personal health counselor, and yoga and exercise instructor, Marcy Covey.
