Lewiston police: attempted abduction never happened

LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Lewiston Police have said that the call describing an attempted abduction was a false report.

Police are offering no other details at this time, but have said they are no longer actively looking for the vehicle or the person described during the alleged incident Saturday morning.

Sergeant Whelan of the Lewiston Police Department says that after interviewing the girl and family members, they surmised the girl either misunderstood what had happened or the likelihood that it never occurred.

Whalen had said at approximately 9:38 Saturday morning the department received a call from a father that said an individual had tried to pull his 12 year old daughter into the back of what is describes as a green Chevy Blazer type vehicle.
