A week of wish granting for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine

PORTLAND, ME – March 14, 2011 – It will be a week of wish granting for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine as they work to grant wishes to three local children between March 22 - 29.

“It isn’t only one day these kids see their wish come true,” said Kate Vickery, program director at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine. “It’s the build up of excitement and magic that stretches on to create lasting memories for these deserving kids.”

On March 19, Lucien, 6, of Gorham will have a party at Longhorn Steakhouse in South Portland to celebrate with friends and family the granting of his wish: To meet characters from Walt Disney’s Toy Story. Lucien and his family will leave for Walt Disney World® days later, where he’ll meet the official Toy Story characters.

The heart and how it functions, and risk factors associated with heart disease were topics of discussion at a recent meeting of the Central Maine Medical Center Associates. Michael Lemieux, M.D., (photo left) shown with CMMC Associates President Christine Bosse, was the guest speaker. Lemieux, a Lewiston native, practices with Central Maine Heart Associates in Lewiston. John Bastin, director of Emergency Preparedness at CMMC, will speak at the next CMMC Associates meeting on March 14 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn. Local architecture topic for Historical Society

Local architecture topic for Historical Society

Mark Lee, an associate and architectural designer with the Harriman architectural firm, will speak at the Androscoggin Historical Society meeting March 22 at 7 p.m. in the Society’s headquarters, on the third floor of the County Courthouse at the corner of Court and Turner Streets in Auburn. The public is invited to attend without charge. An elevator is available.
Lee will continue a presentation he made to the Society at a meeting last year, outlining a history of the firm’s regional work and comparing it to historic trends in architecture. The Harriman firm, which was established in 1870, designed numerous local projects including the Dingley School and the Kora Temple Shrine in Lewiston, and the Washburn and Chamberlain Schools in Auburn.

Hogan Family Fundraising

Fire & Iron Station 707 (Fire Fighters Motorcycle Club) And Gritty McDuffs in Auburn will be holding a fundraiser on April 2nd, 2011 from 5pm to 11 pm. Gritty’s will donate $1 from every pint sold to help us in our efforts to raise money for the Hogan Family.

This benefit is to help the Hogan family in Lisbon Falls who recently lost their home and two daughters (Natalie & Kelsey ) who were 11 and 6 in a fire on March 4th , 2011.  Natalie and Kelsey were two of the six children in the home at the time the fire started. Lorna their mother was able to get the other four children out of the house and went back into the blaze to try and rescue Natalie and Kelsey. Her attempts failed.
