"Beer Fest L/A" it's happening at the Grid Iron in Lewiston on Feb 27 and all proceeds go towards the second annual Breast Fest. Which will be held at Lost valley this year with 12 bands in 3 days and includes a car show, a motorcycle run, and a jazz brunch with a few words by local cancer experts.

Program for teachers on the National Endowment for the Humanities Picturing America initiative

LEWISTON, ME – March 19 the Maine Humanities Council with Bates College Museum of Art and the USM Lewiston-Auburn College Atrium Art Gallery will offer a program for teachers on the National Endowment for the Humanities Picturing America initiative. This one-day program for teachers of students ages 0 - 18 will offer innovative ways to use visual images from Picturing America and Maine’s local art collections to teach critical thinking skills, visual and verbal literacy and American culture.  If you are new to Picturing America, or are already familiar with it, this program will help you expand your knowledge.

Picturing America provides a collection of high-quality reproductions of American artistic masterpieces along with teacher guides and web tools to schools and public libraries. These poster-sized reproductions help students and citizens of all ages understand America through its art.

Tickets are on sale now for "The Wizard of Oz". Children and adults will enjoy this well-loved full-length producing featuring over 60 talented kids aged 5 though 16. Tickets are $9/$6 and are available online at http://www.fiddleheadcenter.org/ and at the door. Performances are Saturdays on March 19 and 26 at 7 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on March 20 and 27 at 2 p.m. at the GNG High School theater.
Fiddlehead Center for Art and Science is a regional facility offering enrichment classes for all ages, yoga, pottery, a unique after school program, independent kindergarten, preschool program and more.
The production is directed by Tammy Fisher, musical direction by Kevin Smith and choreography by Stefanie Russell.

Presentations for the morning’s event kick off at 8:30 a.m. with Katarina Latkovich, M.D., of Central Maine Internal Medicine, who will discuss “Metabolic Syndrome: A Chronic Illness Conspiracy”, focusing on a set of conditions -- unhealthy blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and body shape – that can increase an individual’s risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. She will explain how lifestyle changes can delay or even prevent the development of serious health problems.
Latkovich earned her medical degree at the University of Belgrade in Belgrade, Yugoslavia and completed residency training at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
