The 5th annual Brunswick Outdoor Arts Festival takes place on the sidewalks of Maine Street and on the adjacent town Mall on August 20 from 9-5.  Thousands of visitors will take advantage of the sunshine and the wonderful atmosphere on this special day in town.  Beginning with only 39 artists, the event has expanded in scope every year and has had a greater audience, each year.

Designed to celebrate and foster an appreciation of the arts and to showcase Brunswick as a wonderful cultural destination, there are more than 90 juried artists and artisans featuring painting, sculpture, mixed media, graphics and drawing, photography and fine crafts.

• One of the oldest Agricultural Fairs in Maine, established in 1854.
• New dates this year (used to run Sunday through Saturday) this year moving to
Tuesday August 9th through Sunday 14th.
• Free admission harness racing only days Sunday August 7th and Monday August
8th.
• New rates this year $10 admission for everyone includes limitless rides.
• Rides by Rockwell Amusements
• Senior Day is Tuesday August 9th, 63 and over admission is $3.00
• Agricultural events: Draft horse pulling, Ox and steer pulling, harness racing, pig
scrambles for 5, 6, 7, and 8 yr olds- everyone gets a chance to chase a pig.
• Big Entertainment: AWA Wrestling Tues. night. Demolition Derby Weds. night,
Twyce Shy Thurs. night, Redneck Truck Pull Friday night, Demolition Derby Sat.
night followed by fireworks, Imperial Stunt Drivers Sun.

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society has won a spot in this year’s ASPCA $100 Challenge

Thanks to over 5,300 local animal lovers who voted for the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, the local organization won a spot in this year’s ASPCA $100K Challenge, competing for grants from ASPCA totaling $300,000, including a top prize of $100,000.

The 2011 ASPCA $100K Challenge is a nationwide competition for animal shelters (and their communities) aiming to get more animals adopted or returned to their owners than ever before.  Taking place from August 1 to October 31, 2011, the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society will compete to find homes for more cats and dogs than they did during the same period in 2010.  Competing against 49 other shelters, the goal is to save at least 300 more animals.
