Learn to Paddle and Paddle After Hours to be Offered this Thursday in Downtown L-A

Youth in Auburn Summer Camp to learn to paddle by day, all community members invited to join in after work

Lewiston-Auburn, Maine – As the 16th Annual Source to Sea Trek, sponsored by the Androscoggin River Watershed Council (ARWC), makes its way to Merrymeeting Bay, it will make a brief layover this Thursday in downtown Lewiston-Auburn.  In partnership with the Great Falls Paddling Society, the canoe and kayak program of the Androscoggin Land Trust (ALT), two events are being offered to get local residents and visitors out on the Androscoggin River in the heart of Maine’s second largest urban area.

Beginning the morning of August 4th, middle school-aged youth taking part in the City of Auburn’s Summer Camp program will be given an opportunity to learn to paddle a canoe in the section of the Androscoggin River between the Lewiston Falls Dam and Deer Rips Dam.  This section, offering relatively calm water, also parallels the City of Lewiston’s proposed River

21st ANNUAL ALL STAR SOCCER TOURNAMENT TO BENEFIT SPECIAL OLYMPICS MAINE

The 21st annual All Star Invitational Senior Mens/Womens Soccer tournament will be held on Tuesday August 2nd at Westbrook High School. Proceeds from the games will benefit Special Olympics Maine. The Women’s All Star Game will be held at 6:00 PM and the Men’s All Star game will follow at 8:00 PM. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. (a rain-date of August 4th has been set)
The All Star tournament has got to be one of the most exciting soccer events of the year. The teams are made up of some of Maine’s finest Varsity players from 2010. They will represent the Western Maine conference and the Southern Maine Activities Association.
The All Star Games Committee has selected Wally Caldwell from York and Rich Smith from Westbrook as the coaches of the WMC Women’s team.

Emily's Run Registrations Approach 500

AUBURN – Nearly 500 runners and walkers have registered for Emily’s Run, the second round of the Greater L-A Triple Crown 5K Series presented by Maine Orthopaedic Foundation. The event will take place Sunday, July 24 at 9 a.m. at Edward Little High School.

Registration is $20 per person and is available through the event website - www.triplecrown5k.com. Race day registrations will be accepted at 7:15 a.m.

Entering its seventh year, Emily’s Run is held in memory of Emily Fletcher, a former Edward Little student who lost her life in a car accident on December 18, 2004; she was 21. She was a standout in ELHS cross country and track; and excelled in the classroom, leading her to double major in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Vermont.
